  My son graduated last Friday

  i have talked about him before on this forum.

  he is now a graduate from mit!.

  it was a lovely weekend.. i got to meet some of the friends he has made in the past four years, and some of their families.. they were very nice, decent, friendly, and enjoyable people.

  JW Parents in bad shape with no retirement.

  my wife's parents are in very bad shape.

  they are both 2nd gen jws.

  my father in law worked for a large american manufacturing company in the 60s and early 70s.

  BlownAway, You seem like a really nice guy. A smart man who is looking out for his family. And you love your wife. All commendable.

  Has your wife worked and put money into a retirement plan also? Do you see your financial planner together? Does she have any idea how much a good life costs? Is she concerned when she takes her credit card that what ever she buys, should be paid off by the end of the month so that there is no credit charge? Is she happily joining you in paying off the mortage? Do you save money together before you buy a car or anything major?

  When you say your wife has taken some time off to spend with her parents, is that time off from a real job or from pioneering?

  You say you haven't had a vacation for several years. Is your wife concerned for your health? Does she plan relaxing days, evenings with you in mind? Does she know your favorite beer, drink, meal? Does she have any idea what would make you happy?

  I ask all of this because you seem so nice. Your wife knows you are not a walking, talking ATM machine right? I don't want her to take advantage of your goodness and kindness and think of it as a weakness which it is not.

  Her parents had their time in the sun. Their sunset has approached. It is a sad truth.

  If you have loved her and tried to cushion her from life's ugliness, sheltered her, and if she is a staunch JW, then she probably is not prepared for this eventuality that is happening to her aged parents. Old age and death. Sorry to say, not everyone has a pleasant ending.

  Does your wife not get it that WT / JW..org has just strung her parents along, using them, to further their goals? WT is a worldwide real estate development business that uses the naivety of people to get what they want.

  Fact for me. The ones I knew before 1975 that took their pension money out, or sold their home and or business and moved out of the big city, out of the couples I know that did that, one of each of the couples ended up with dementia. One couple, both husband and wife died from Alzheimer's. An exception was one who died a few years back. Not from dementia but obesity, diabetes, then fatal heart attack. All thought and preached that they would never die.

  Is your wife 40, 50 years old and still thinks that she will not die? Does she spend time with her parents praying that The Big A comes quickly... still in their lifetime?

  Have you and your wife made out your Will and discussed your own funeral plans? Has her parents? So many JW's I know do not plan. They can't think past having their "go bag" ready.

  ... sorry it is so long... sometimes... I have things to say.

  (the procedural problem was caused by my independent selection of what i wanted to study).

  I read the comments on reddit from the above post.

  Hmm... Interesting to say the least.

  What if part of the huge requests for money was to pay the lawyers to keep them, the GB, out of jail for as long as possible.

  So, they cut back on building, rob all the kingdom halls of any assets but nicely let them keep $5,000... (until they need it... )

  Only print 3 Watchtowers and 3 Awake's all year for the public.

  They got rid of all of the district overseers. A circuit overseer is put out to pasture at age 70. They sent home scores of Bethelites.

  No printing facility at Chelmsford will be built. No 13 apartments blocks there either, only 5.

  Keep telling the sheeples everyone lies but them. hahaha What a joke.

  I was thinking the GB were swinging things so that when their naive audience wakes up, they will have had enough money, assets etc hidden away all over the world to keep themselves and their closest buddies afloat when WT crashes. I never imagined they would go to prison. Oh... That is a nice thought.

  they think that they have the instruments necesary to be capable doing those tests.. 'this is no trivial pursuit: some of the greatest minds in history, from plato, to descartes, have pondered the possibility.

  This is so painful for me to read. I only read to page 18.

  All the books and articles he shows and quotes from, were the brainwashing material and emotional manipulation tactics we all received and used. I believed those books. I went door to door thinking I was bringing salvation with a reward in paradise for all who would listen and convert. I was a true Believer.

  Now all of those books are to be thrown away because they have "old light" and are not valued anymore.

  What of all of the decades of our lives spent spreading JW..org's now, useless garbage?

  So many wasted years. So many wasted life's. So many of life's decisions based on WT's lies.

  The man who wrote this book states he was born in 1936 in England. He would be 82 now. I hope he is well and has lived a good life away from WT.

  tell us a little about yourself and your family.. i was born and raised in southern california, with a brief stint with parents as need-greaters in central america.

  my parents accepted a study in the d2d work, i believe my father was interested in the revolutionary aspect of the religion, and my mom said she wanted to learn the bible.

  they were baptized in 1937 i think, and attended the one and only los angeles kh at the time.

  born in the early 50’s in london england to non jw parents and when i was young we moved to adelaide south australia and there my brother was born .

  i contracted tb on the ship over and was treated in hospital for months with a antibiotic which is banned for humans here now .

  my father would tell me tearfully over the years how horrible it was for me and them .even then ,dad was told by doctors i may have nerve and brain damage from the treatment and an unstable temperament.. .

You are a lively, beautiful (google her name and picture) fantastic person who is very smart, capable and humble.

  PS I would really like to know what happened to that WT company man who said this to you:

  "Listen... If you know who the Faithful and Discreet slave is and there is a problem... You know who the problem is". Ohhhh. i would have loved some Elder / Servant say that to me... only decades ago. That would have been the straw that broke the camels back.

  So glad you and most of the people on this Board have voted with our feet and left.
